Walgreens

Walgreens is a nationwide chain store that sells a wide variety of items including health and beauty items, household products, medicine and medical equiptment, toys, baby items, food, wine & beer, electronics and more.  It seems their product lines are expanding and more and more stores are popping up across the nation.

To make shopping at Walgreens (often referred to as Wags) fun and thrifty, it is important to understand their coupon policy, their Register Rewards program, and how to effectively spend the least out of pocket as possible.

Register Rewards:

Walgreen’s in store rewards program is called Register Rewards.  Register Rewards (RR) are paper coupons that print from a seperate machine, called a Catalina machine, out once you complete a transaciton.  If you purchase something that qualifies for a RR, it automatically prints out.    There is no membership card, nothing to fill out, the RR simply print at time of sale.

Things to remember about Register Rewards:

• RR do have an expiration date, usually about 2 weeks after the date they are printed
• RR are transferrable, anyone can use them
• RR are just like cash, but you will not receive cash back for them.  For example, if you use a $5 RR to pay for a $4.23 sale, you will not receive any cash back.
• If you use RR received for an item to purchase more of the same item, new RR will not print.  They are issued by manufacturer’s, for example P&G.  If you use a RR issued by P&G to buy another P&G product (hoping to get back more RR), they will not print.
• RR are usually one per offer.  So, if Wags is offering a $2 RR if you buy 3 toothbrushes, if you put 6 toothbrushes into 1 transaction, you will only receive one $2 RR.  However, by checking out first with 3 (and getting $2 RR) and then checking out a second time with 3 more, you will receive a total of $4 in RR.
